About Us
The North Albany American Legion Post is one of the most active veteran organizations in the Capital District. Presently we have loyal members living in 17 states around
the country. Of course, we have quite
a few “snowbirds” that make the migration to warmer climates each year. We also have several members serving in
the Middle East.
We welcome all interested veterans to become members of our American Legion Post and the world’s largest veteran organization. Our dues are $30 for a regular membership or $27 if you are age 62 or older and retired. We also sponsor the membership of those presently serving our nation on active duty. History
The
North Albany Post was formed in late 1946 by a number of individuals returning from their military service. The original idea was to name the Post after one the local heroes that had made the supreme sacrifice. With 17 casualties from the neighborhood, which one do you choose? Logic finally prevailed and the new club was named for the neighborhood with plaques honoring the war dead. We now display several memorial plaques honoring the war dead of all the wars since
our inception. We also have a memorial board remembering the names of our departed
members.
