We have had the honor of entertaining members of the 3rd Battalion, 142nd Aviation Unit that
has served in Bosnia and Nicaragua. Fox Company, 3rd USMC unit joined
us for a family day party following their return from Iraq. Support was given
to the members of the 107th, NY National Guard as part of the 108th Infantry by raising over $4000 selling yellow
ribbons to provide gift packages while they served in Iraq. Currently we are
working with the family support group of the 42nd Rainbow Division as members of their families recently were assigned
to Iraq.
Presently we have several members serving in the Middle East.
Those returning from
their military service formed North Albany Post in late 1946. The original idea
was to name the Post after one the local heroes that had made the supreme sacrifice.
With 17 casualties from the neighborhood, which one do you choose? Logic
finally prevailed and the new club was named for the neighborhood with plaques honoring the war dead. We now display several memorial plaques honoring the war dead of all the wars since our inception. We also have a memorial board remembering the names of our departed members.
Our club is open each
weekday from 2:00pm and from 12 noon on the weekends. Closing is usually in the
very late evening except on the weekends when hours are extended. Stop in and
say hello, you are most welcome. During the week there are usually 3 or 4 members
attending to office duties from 10 to noon or longer and the coffee pot is usually on or can be very quickly. Stop by for a chat.
We are located on North
First St., which is next to I-90 where it crosses Broadway and North Pearl St. Coming
from Memorial Hospital area, take a left on Van Rensselaer Blvd. and a right on North First St. You can’t miss us.
